How my was life working as an Enteprise Technology Consultant for firms across the globe?

The career

I have entered the world of technology consulting by chance stumbling upon a growing career in the field that with Microsoft. This was my first chance after graduation learning so many new businesses, industries and helping business solve their challenges.

The clients

The type of clients that worked that were in the following industries:

Type of work

My main specialty was around business operations, so understanding how clients store, use and track their data around inventory and any integrations they have with outside vendors and third parties, including any infrastructure that they use at their warehouse, was my job to figure out and implement. Ultimately, these companies were outgrowing their current system that their business ran on so they needed me to help them upgrade to something new and also apply their logic to that new system. I would work across multiple teams, gather data, train, test, customize, write logic and make sure that the new system operated the way that the client wanted to. I also had to fly twice every week for years. This was my first job out of school so the travel didn't bother me plus I just racked up the points!

Work at LVMH

Every client and the way they operate particularly around logistics, order management, inventory and operations are unique. You could not apply the same concepts from one client to the other because everybody did things their own way. And if everyone did things their own unique way then everything had to be customized. One of my proudest moments working with a client called Louis Vuitton (LVMH) involved a highly customized solution. The sales team and I met in a conference room, and they explained that they are trying to create a process for which customers could order custom dresses, but they did not have a system or a business process that existed. Having worked with multiple clients by that point, I knew that I could develop something that they could use so after a month of development and testing the process was handed off to the team and it was a huge success. To this day LVMH is using this process for one of their custom products.

In Conclusion

Having to work with so many clients gave me such valuable insight into how businesses operate and where their challenges lie. When you work in so many departments and contribute to the success of the organization you work with, you will become a valuable asset as organizations are constantly evolving and having to move at a fast pace they need the right consultants to get the job done!
